MEET YOUR CAPTAIN

MEET YOUR CAPTAIN

Raised in the interior of BC, Spencer grew up chasing trout on the lakes and streams near home. While attending the University of British Columbia, he spent as much time on the ocean and local rivers as he did in class, and soon after graduating took a job working at a fishing lodge on Langara Island, in Haida Gwaii. After cutting his teeth on the docks, he started his guiding career and never looked back. He has spent the last decade chasing salmon between Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert, where he has called home for the last five years. When not on the salt water, he can be found in the Kispiox valley guiding guests into wild steelhead in the fall, and exploring the coast looking for waves and remote beaches to explore with his fiancé and dog.

OUR APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY

Share the beauty, adventure, and abundance of the North Coast through safe, respectful, and genuine small-group marine experiences.

Closures

Over the last 7 years we have seen closures for retention of chinook salmon during the season, generally mid June to mid July, in the waters around Prince Rupert. These closures are essential for conservation, helping protect fragile stocks so that we can continue enjoying sustainable angling opportunities in the years to come. If targeting chinook salmon is one of your priorities, please keep this in mind when booking your charter dates.

Conservation

Additionally, we release any chinook over 30lbs, which is referred to as a Tyee. This conservation method is important due to the fact that larger fish produce vastly more and healthier eggs, pass on beneficial genes for size and survival, and ensure future generations, helping to rebuild stressed populations. We ensure proper release techniques by minimizing handling, and quick releases after getting a nice photo to remember the moment.
